Churchill Fellowship: Architectural Terracotta

I’m pleased to share the findings of my 2011 Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship; I visited the USA to study architectural terracotta, its historical and contemporary uses in comparison with the UK.

Please follow this link to read an online copy of my Report. I spent 2 months in New York, Chicago and San Francisco, visiting sites, meeting architects, manufacturers, conservation professionals and ceramicists working with the built environment. This opportunity has  has given me a unique insight into applications of terracotta historically and innovations today. My reporting includes a case study of the largest terracotta replacement, on site currently, in Chicago and details of site visits and major historic buildings.
