a little homage to Louis Sullivan

The buzz of Jazz in the Millenium Park… extreme window cleaners… on the 41st floor of Randolph Tower scaffold… Oakland’s glistening glazes… my so sore foot… the legend that is Tim Samuelson… eerie Buffalo and its majestic grain elevators… heady Broadway terracotta and neon… gloss gleaming terracotta across San Francisco… Susan Tunick… my sturdy red trainers and the camera that just kept on going…

As I realise that a couple of years ago this month I was making my way across the big country from NY to Chicago as a Winston Churchill Fellow, I thought it appropriate to share some images of the building that made the biggest impression on me, from the hundreds I ogled up at, and the one that inspires me each day still; Louis Sullivan’s Guaranty Building, Buffalo, NY.

Coincidentally there is just about enough time to apply for one of this year’s Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowships as the application deadline is on 24th September. Good luck!
